The Triangle of Quiet Hills
The group stood between the first and second hills, the frost thinning under the rising sun. The plain around them was wide and open, but the three mounds formed a quiet enclosure—a triangle of earth that felt intentional in a way none of them could yet explain.
Mara stepped toward the second hill, her boots brushing through the brittle grass. The faint arc of pale light that connected the mounds was clearer here, pressed into the ground with a precision that suggested design rather than chance.
Arath joined her, studying the slope.
“This one’s different,” he said. “Steeper. More defined.”
Rhyven’s riders spread out, checking the perimeter.
Tessa paused near a cluster of stones arranged in a half‑circle at the hill’s base.
“These weren’t placed by weather,” she said. “Someone set them here.”
Solace drifted lower, its resonance steady.
“The world remembers its builders.”
Elda Varyn approached the stones, her expression thoughtful.
“Builders,” she repeated. “Not emissaries. Not the valley. Something older.”
Mara placed a hand on the hill’s surface. The earth felt cool, but not inert. There was a quiet sense of intention beneath the soil—not a message, not a warning, but a presence.
“This wasn’t shaped by the world alone,” she said. “Someone helped it.”
Arath nodded.
“Then this place wasn’t just found. It was made.”
Rhyven stepped back, taking in the full triangle of hills.
“Three mounds. Three arcs. Three paths. All pointing outward.”
Solace hovered above the center of the triangle.
“This is a nexus,” it said. “A place where movements converge.” ...
